Whether you need a new outfit to wear to work tomorrow, groceries to fill your pantry, or riding gear to help you get acclimated to life in the Horse Capital of the World, there are plenty of places to shop when you're living in Lexington, Kentucky. From major malls to smaller boutiques, you'll find something that's selling exactly what you're in the market to buy.

Lexington seems to be swimming in shopping malls. Fayette Mall happens to be the biggest one in the state. It offers clothing stores for men and women, such as J.Crew and Banana Republic, as well as home stores such as Williams Sonoma and beauty shops such as Sephora.

Another mall, The Mall At Lexington Green, features a mix of national retailers, such as Anthropologie and LOFT, as well as smaller, locally owned businesses. One local business is Joseph-Beth Booksellers, an independently owned bookstore that's been in the area for more than 25 years.

The Shops at Lexington Center is a slightly more unconventional mall. Located in the convention center, it's home to a number of small, locally owned retailers. One shop is Kentucky Korner, which is dedicated to selling merchandise from the University of Kentucky sports teams. Merchandise on offer ranges from clothing to home decor items. Another University of Kentucky themed store is Cat Couture, which specializes in upscale apparel for women and kids. The Shops at Lexington Center also has a chocolate shop, several fine arts galleries, and a tobacconist.

Grocery Shopping

There are grocery stores to fit all budgets and dietary preferences in Lexington. Located at the Mall at Lexington Green, Whole Foods specializes in organic and locally sourced foods. The Fresh Market also focuses on locally grown and organic produce. If you're looking for food basics and are on a budget, you might want to check out Aldi. Owned by the sister company of the company that owns Trader Joe's, Aldi offers a selection of its own-name brands for less than what you'd pay at a standard grocery store. It also occasionally features name brand products at discounted prices.

Riding Gear

Even if you've never been on a horse before, now that you're calling Lexington home, you might want to give riding a try at some point. Several shops in the area specialize in riding gear and tack. Bob Mickler's has been where horse lovers have gone for their gear since 1949. The shop offers riding apparel such as helmets, vests, and breeches. It also sells everyday clothing from well-known brands such as Barbour, and gift items such as jewelry and watches.

Small Boutiques

If you have a thing for designer clothing, you'll want to drop in to AJ's Casuals. A small, locally owned boutique, AJ's offers a variety of designers, such as Kate Spade and Rebecca Taylor. Another local shop worth checking out is Worlds Apart, which offers designer clothing, as well as an eclectic assortment of knick knacks and other things. Whether you need a gift for a friend or a new outfit, you might find it at Worlds Apart.

While the retailers above provide a good start, by no means do they represent all of your options for shopping in Lexington. To discover even more shops and boutiques, it’s best to get out and explore the town for yourself!
