The University of Kentucky is arguably one of the top public colleges in the country. Its men's basketball team routinely makes it through the early stages of March Madness and well into the Sweet Sixteen and beyond. Even if you're not a basketball fan, you'll still want to learn about the nightlife near the University of Kentucky. These local businesses are great for watching those games, chatting with fans, and having an experience that you'll never forget.

Live Music

After spending all day studying in the library or working on homework, you deserve a break. Venues across the city that offer live music and entertainment are the perfect place to take that break. One of the hottest things to do near University of Kentucky is paying a visit to Cosmic Charlie's, long called one of the top music venues in Lexington.

Cosmic Charlie's is a venue on Woodland Avenue that has a full bar and more than 20 different types of beer on tap. The bands that play here will get your toes tapping and make you want to jump right onto the dance floor. Though the bar does charge an admission fee, you can usually get in and have a few drinks for less than you would pay anywhere else. Cosmic Charlie's also has special theme nights that take place every month.

College Excitement

You won't find excitement anywhere in the city like the excitement you experience at a college bar. These local Lexington bars welcome fans who love the Wildcats and want to show their team spirit. If you show up wearing those classic shades of blue and white, everyone will treat you like a member of the family. While you have a few college bar options in the city, make sure you check out Tin Roof. Located on South Limestone, visiting this bar is one of the top things to do near the University of Kentucky. Tin Roof runs Happy Hour specials on Monday and Tuesday and has daily drink specials every day from Monday to Saturday.

After the Party Ends

While local laws require that pubs and bars close in the early morning, you can extend the night at Tolly-Ho, the ultimate after hours hot spot. This South Broadway restaurant consistently ranks among the city’s favorite places to go. Because it's open 24 hours a day, you can stop in for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and the greatly coveted post-midnight snack. The menu features all the classic diner foods you love, including burgers, omelets, and chili cheese fries. Cap off your meal with a slice of homemade Kentucky silk pie or a bottle of Ale 8, which is a ginger ale style soda brewed right in the state.
